Every time Dan Davis sees a Whit Davis truck on the road, he smiles.

After 44 years with the Arkansas building materials company his grandfather founded in 1953, the third-generation owner has stepped away from the business. But like many people who spend a lifetime building something, he hasn’t stopped caring about it.
