Built for Quality: Inside S&R Manufacturing, Arkansas Door and Millwork Operation

S&R Manufacturing, located in side our Jacksonville, Arkansas location, is where craftsmanship meets precision every day on the door and millwork line. The operation builds and assembles a full range of interior and exterior door units for contractors, remodelers, and homeowners across the Southeast region. Each door that leaves the shop represents careful sourcing, experienced hands, and an unwavering focus on quality.

The Jacksonville team produces both interior and exterior units. Interior options include hollow-core and solid-core molded-skin doors, wood doors, and primed MDF (medium-density fiberboard) doors. The shop’s most common interior product, the molded-skin door, remains popular for its affordability and wide range of designs and sizes. For customers seeking distinctive looks, the team also assembles special-order wood and MDF doors, available in numerous wood species and styles.

Exterior door units include steel, smooth fiberglass, textured fiberglass, and wood. We stock the first three materials in Jacksonville and sources wood doors and components from manufacturers across the United States. Some wood exterior doors arrive ready to assemble, while others are received as pre-hung units, fully built and ready to ship to customers.

According to General Manager Darren Staton, the shop’s flexibility is one of its greatest strengths.

“We order doors and components from all over the country, assemble them in our shop, and ship directly to our customers,” he explains. “If it’s not something we can build here, we have trusted partners who can custom-make exactly what a customer envisions.”

Precision Equipment and Skilled Teams
The Jacksonville location’s interior door machine, purchased about three years ago, streamlines production while maintaining accuracy and consistency. The system includes an automated loader to feed slabs into the machining station, which mills both door and frame. From there, the framer assembles each interior unit, and the team adds trim before the door moves to staging.

Every step of that process involves hands-on attention and multiple layers of inspection. Each operator—from the loader to the framer to the trim installer—is personally responsible for the quality of the unit at their station. Drivers who deliver the completed units to job sites also inspect doors as they’re unloaded to ensure every customer receives a perfect fit.

That same commitment to accountability applies to exterior units as well.

“Each person involved is responsible for the quality of every unit that leaves the shop,” Staton says.

Sourcing and Sustainability
Most exterior door components are sourced from U.S. manufacturers, while interior split jambs come primarily from Chile, where sustainable wood supplies are abundant. The team’s approach emphasizes efficiency and waste reduction. Short off-cuts are reused for bracing or as bottom sticks on interior units, ensuring that every usable piece of material serves a purpose.

Experience is another key resource. The Jacksonville shop team ranges from employees with just a couple of years on the job to veterans with decades of knowledge. The shop foreman has been with the operation for 24 years, bringing deep expertise that anchors the crew’s daily work. Training and cross-training are constant priorities, helping every employee understand multiple aspects of the production process.

Built on Service, Designed for the Future
Spahn & Rose’s door and millwork shop builds doors—and relationships. Inside and outside sales staff work closely with builders and remodelers to confirm measurements, select materials, and ensure every unit meets project needs. That collaboration helps keep orders accurate and schedules on track.

Staton notes that design trends continue to evolve.

“We’re seeing more modern and craftsman-style homes with clear glass,” he says. “Customers are moving away from the highly decorative glass door units we saw in the past.”

That shift means the Jacksonville shop continually adapts inventory and assembly processes to meet current styles.

Though testing is conducted by the manufacturers who supply door panels and inserts, Spahn & Rose relies on their certified data and product documentation to give customers accurate performance information. This partnership approach allows the shop to focus on what it does best: assembly, customization, and delivery.

Looking ahead, Staton and his team see room to grow. “Our hope for the future is a new shop with more space,” he says. “We need additional staging areas and material storage to serve even more customers efficiently.”

Craftsmanship That Travels
Every door that leaves the Jacksonville operation tells a story of teamwork, precision, and pride. Whether it’s a molded-skin interior door for a new home or a custom wood exterior unit for a renovation, the process begins and ends with quality control and customer care. With decades of combined experience, a commitment to using resources wisely, and a forward-looking view of the market, Spahn & Rose’s Whit Davis location continues to open doors—literally—for builders across the Southeast.
